Poindexter
Some information suggests that a rural school, used perhaps as a church and social center on weekends, existed on the Amanda J. Poindexter (1815-1883) farm in the late 1800s and early 1900s. William Thomas Stiles recalled being told that a church had been named Poindexter to honor the memory of his "Grandma Poindexter". It is possible that the Poindexter farm is now the Lon T. Hubbard farm, Mr. Hubbard being the last Poindexter descendant to own the farm.
The story of the school could be explained because the niece of Amanda Poindexter, Fanny Blair, taught school in Dr. John Collier's College in the early 1870s. She boarded with the family of Sam Stiles because the Poindexter house was not within walking distance of the school.
